Water is more complicated that one might think. Even though there are multiple types of water, the FDA states that manufacturers that prepare wet granulations and/or aqueous liquid preparations, the quality of the water, both chemically and microbiologically, must be at least of the USP purified water variety.
USP purified water and the USP WFI (Water for Injection) on the other hand are components or “ingredient materials” as they are termed by the USP, intended to be used in the production of drug products.
